Working in our fixed marine facility, a Tankerman’s primary function is to oversee and execute cargo transfer operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential duties & responsibilities:
• Performing all cargo transfer procedures as the PIC, including completing bills of lading and gauging reports
• Ensuring that all cargo transfer equipment and procedures comply with federal, state, and company laws, policies, and regulations.
• Reporting all hazardous or unsafe conditions and making corrections when able.
• Monitoring product level in tanks, ensuring no tank is overfilled.
• Operating diesel engines, cargo pumps, and other vessel machinery, and maintaining in good working order.
• Operational duties including, but not limited to dropping, spotting, and switching barges. Assisting the vessel and tow in making locks including making a coupling, operating winches and ratchets, and handling, splicing, and throwing lines.
• Respond in a safe, efficient manner to mitigate pollution or damage in any shipboard emergency
• Assist the operator on vessel inspections.
• Report any problems or discrepancies noted during daily operations.
• Keep the barge clean and free of worn out or unneeded equipment.
• Ensure all equipment is properly stowed.
• Compliance with the company Safety & Security Management Programs
• Performs other general maintenance as directed.
Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid USCG tankerman license and credentials
• Valid TWIC card
• Able to communicate in English and work professionally with supervisors and crew members
Working Conditions:
• Required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
• Required to lift/push/carry items more than 50 pounds
• Continual exposure to outside weather conditions including extreme heat or cold
• Work near moving mechanical parts
